A legacy of aroha.
A commitment to give back.

Some names carry a story. Manaaki is one of ours.

Manaaki is the fourth child and third son to Erin and John. Although his time with them was heartbreakingly short, the love he brought into their lives was enormous, and we wanted his name to continue to mean something beyond our Kaupapa Threads whānau.

So, as part of Kaupapa Threads, we created Manaaki's Legacy.

It is our commitment to turn a little of what we build into something that gives back.

WHAT IS
'MANAAKI'S LEGACY'?

Manaaki's Legacy is the giving kaupapa of Kaupapa Threads, created in memory of a sweet little boy and inspired by the meaning carried in his name.

Through Manaaki's Legacy, we aim to support initiatives that are doing the mahi to
protect, strengthen and carry Indigenous cultures forward.

Our focus is on Māori and Australian First Nations communities, with a particular interest in initiatives supporting:

  • Te reo Māori and Indigenous languages
  • Cultural education and knowledge
  • Māori and First Nations arts
  • History and storytelling
  • Cultural connection and identity
  • Opportunities for the next generation to learn and carry culture forward

Culture doesn't survive by accident.
It survives because people choose to nurture it, teach it, protect it and pass it on.

SUPPORTING OUR AUSTRALIAN FIRST NATIONS WHĀNAU

As a people, Māori know the struggles our Australian First Nations brothers and sisters are dealing with on a daily basis.

We work and live on a whenua that is not our own, and it is a whenua that was stolen, much like our own.

This is how we show manaakitanga to a nation that is providing us with the land to grow our lives and our business, and ensure their culture is protected as well.

5% OF PROFITS DONATED EVERY QUARTER

At the beginning of each quarter a new recipient will be chosen to receive that quarter's donation.
When our financial report for the quarter is available, a lump sum donation is made to the person, group, organisation, or business that we feel is doing the mahi (and needs to get the treats).

Each choice will be announced via our website and social media pages at the beginning of the quarter to provide transparancy to our customers.
